beowulf and macbeth leadership styles essay

Leadership styles essay
Everyone thinks that they have what it takes to be a good leader. Many don’t understand the repercussions that come along with it. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the different leadership styles of Beowulf and Macbeth. Both of them struggled with their inner selves when it came to having power. Power changed both of them for the worst, one of them more than the other.
Beowulf always wanted to be a leader; he was a person that everyone honored and respected because he was loyal and cared for others. He wanted to be the best leader he could be for his people, but like any other epic hero with power he had a terrible tragic flaw; his flaw was pride. He wanted everyone to love him and think of him as a hero. The need to be powerful and a renowned king loved by all consumed him so badly that he would do anything to have his wish. The normal Beowulf would become king the right way, but the power hungry Beowulf wanted a shortcut to the throne. He cheated his way to the top and slept with the “devil” to gain power. Beowulf was so stuck on becoming king he didn’t realize the monster he was being shaped into, and soon he would become his own worst nightmare.
Macbeth is much like Beowulf; he too cheated his way to the top. He let a prophecy and his conniving wife, Lady Macbeth get into his head. He thought his future sounded good, but wife made it sound even better. He wanted to have power so bad that he did anything in his power to get it, including murder and deceit. He didn’t realize that he had a darkness inside of him that would soon take over! After committing murderous acts to become king he was still empty. Macbeth’s conscious haunted him every day. He went from a noble soldier that everyone cherished, to the prince of darkness in a matter of months. Macbeth allowed himself to be shaped into a savage, befuddled by darkness, a lot like Beowulf.
Beowulf and Macbeth weren’t always bad. The both of them had a lot of good qualities before they became kings; they were both heroes that fought in wars to help their people. They loved protecting others and everyone looked up to them. People trusted Beowulf and Macbeth with lives because they were so honest and trust worthy. No one would’ve ever imagined that they could become so demented and deranged. Not even Beowulf and Macbeth themselves knew how evil they would become and what they were capable of.
Beowulf and Macbeth both started out as good people, but they allowed themselves to be shaped into power hungry demons. They lost sight of who they really were and in the end they both had to face karma for all the evil they had done to gain the crowns. Too much power can bring you down and you won’t even realize it until you’re at the bottom.  Everyone has a little darkness inside them, the important thing is to maintain it and not allow it to take over. Successful leaders always put their people first and do everything in their power to protect them from bad things. Somehow they forget to protect themselves from evil thoughts that corrupt their minds. They lose sight of the important things that made them want to be kings in the first place

Beowulf essay

Beowulf essay
We read the text Beowulf in class and then we watched the film afterwards. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the similarities and differences from both the film and the text. There were many differences that stood out to me. The main three were how dishonest Beowulf was in the film, how much Beowulf and the king Hrothgar were so much alike in a major way, and lastly I noticed how the details about the dragon and the reason why he came were different. A lot of people like the text better. I however show more interest in the film because it has more details. I like to be able to visualize the story I am reading, and while reading the text that didn’t happen for me.

The first major difference I noticed was how dishonest Beowulf was in the film. In the text he was an honest, bold, hero that always told the truth and everyone looked up to him. He went to Denmark to defeat Grendel and succeeded in both the text and the film. However in the film he did not rip his arm off with his bare hands as he said he did, he really used the door for help. Also in the text Beowulf beheaded Grendel’s mother. He attempted to kill her in the film but instead he allowed her to seduce him. She offered him help from the gods for life if he gave her a son, and of course he did exactly what she asked of him. When he got back he told everyone that he had killed her just as he did her son Grendel. His pride was stopping him from telling the truth in the film, this was his tragic flaw. I think the director added this in the film to show how easy it is to give in to temptation no matter who you are. I think this scene was a very good way to show that.

In the text Beowulf sailed back to Sweden and was crowned king because of his victorious battles. I noticed was how similar Beowulf and king Hrothgar were in the film and the text, because they were both kings. However in the film Hrothgar made Beowulf king because he had no choice, he had also made the deadly deal with Grendel’s mother many years ago and now his time was up. It was almost like a terrible endless cycle in the film. The director made it so that Beowulf was the exact same person that the king was when he was young. The both of them made a terrible mistake to become king and ended up paying for it in the long run. They both realized that being king that way wasn’t the way it should’ve been. Hrothgar passed his demons to Beowulf. Grendel was the kings son and the dragon was Beowulf’s son. This was their karma they created their own monsters. These details help support the theme of not giving into temptation.

The one thing that stayed the same throughout the whole film and text was Wiglaf’s loyalty to Beowulf. In the text he was right there when he fought Grendel and also when he went to fight Grendel’s mother. Wiglaf was waiting at the end of the cave for Beowulf to come out; he never lost faith in his friend. He also helped Beowulf fight the dragon in both as well. He was a true friend. I like that they kept it the same because it’s good for everyone to have a good loyal friend that sticks with you through thick and thin, that’s exactly what Wiglaf was.

All three of the details that I listed were the major differences that stood out to me the most. They are also the ones that support my reasons for liking the film more than the text. I believe the director did an amazing job carrying out his themes of loyalty and temptation throughout the whole film within the scenes.

MEPHS DRESS CODE

Mephs dress code

I am writing an essay on how I feel about the dress code at mephs. I have mixed feelings about the dress code. I like it for some people but not for me. Ive been here for three years so im pretty used to it. I've accumulated a lot of clothes that follow the dress code. However I don't think the people that just started have that many clothes. I think the dress code is too pricy. It also makes people look the same, thats one of the main reasons why i don't feel strongly about the dress code

The mephs dress code has its pros and its cons. I however think it has a few more cons than pros. One of its cons is that people aren't able to buy uniforms all the time. a lot of people don't want to buy clothes just for school! plain colors like black, white and grey aren't things things that people already have in their closets or wear on a daily basis. Not everyone has jackets and sweaters in those colors either, this means that people have to buy clothes that they will only wear for a few hours of the day. In my opinion thats a waste of money. This dress code can pretty stressful.

Another reason why I feel the mephs dress code isn't a good idea, is because it makes people lack their own style and originality. Many people want to express themselves through their clothes, and I feel like they should definitely be able to. Many argue that a stranger should not be able to tell you what you can and cant wear. They should not be able to pick and choose your style for you.If you buy them you should have the right to wear them. A lot of people that I know use their clothes to express their personalities, to make them dress a certain way would be taking their personalities in a way.

One of the reasons why I feel like the mephs dress code is a good idea is because it does not allow anyone to be bullied. A lot of the reasons people are bullied is because of the clothes they wear. What people fail to realize is that everyone can't afford all the designer clothes and shoes like everyone else. Some people have struggles within their families. A lot don't really think it matters to be "fly" all the time. With that being said the dress code allows people to come to school confident! They don't have to worry about what people have to say about them if everyone looks the same. The dress code helps people to focus on their grades and not think about the wrong things.

Although others may think the dress code is completely bad or absolutely amazing. I still happen to have mixed feelings about it. simply because its good for some but bad for others. Its good for the ones that are insecure about their clothes. and not so good about the ones a little more fortunate. A dress code limits a lot of people.

Bob the Builder Themes

Bob the Builder

In Bob the Builder I think the theme is to always stay positive, never doubt yourself. for example in the theme song they sing " Can we fix it? yes we can!" Giving up is never an option. They all push each other to get motivated and get the job done. All the tools and Bob come together and each of them have a different special talent. Even though they are all different they all work together as one, because they love to help others. Also another theme would be that its good to help others, whenever you can. You never know when you might be the one that needs help. Everyone needs a little pick me up every once in a while. For example you may see a homeless person on the street, and give them a few dollars. You may not have those dollars anymore but in time it will come back to you in some way, because you helped someone out of the kindness of your heart just like Bob the Builder.

I am, I can, I will..

I am, I can, I will.

I am not who you want me to be.
I am not my clothes.
I am my own person.
Finding myself more each day.
I am phenomenal.
I am.

I can be who I want.
go where I want.
only I determine my future.
I cant change my past.
I can succeed.
I can.

I will be more than my struggles.
I will be successful.
no time to look back.
I will prove them wrong.
I will.

I am, I can, I will.
